POROTI THEFT CASE.

ACCUSED PLEADS GUILTY
AUCKLAND, June 22,
At the Auckland Police Court yesterday afternoon, before; Mr. J. E. Wilson, S.AL, a Maori named Hare Davis, with a brace of aliases, was charged with the theft of an £11 10/ diamond ring at I'oroti, near Whangarei, on October 24, 1917. The ring was missed by is owner, E. .1. Edwards, and subsequently found in a second-hand dealer's in Auckland, with rubies, instead of diamonds—a substitution carried cut by a Whangarei jeweller at accused's order. After the evidence of several witnesses (including Pkin Clothes. Constable Knight, who recovered the missing bit of jewellery) had been given, the accused pleaded guilty, and was committed to the Supreme Court fon sentence.
