It is understood that as a result of recent disclosures and subsequent court proceedings, an action for divorce has been commenced by Mrs C. E Mackay, of Wanganui (says the Wellington "Times.").

Evidently the residents of the Lower Hutt quite fail to realise the usefuless and close proximity of the Hutt river, which flows through the borough, as a means of disposing of their superflous pups and kittens. Instead they adopt the easier method of placing them in the sewers and drains as the following extract from the report of the borough engineer will show: —"Four blocked drains have been cleared. In a great many instances these blocked drains are caused by the carelessness of the users. By the variety of articles that pass through the sewers, it is astonishing that the house drains and sewers do not give more trouble. Pups, kittens, articles of underclothing, and tins by the dozen continually pass through. You will notice that a pair of dungarees were pulled out of the centrifugal pump on one occasion.''
