INCOME TAX EXEMPTION.

APPLICATION FAILS.

WELLINGTON, This Day.

The Ashburton and Greymouth Racing Clubs appealed for exemption from in-

come tax,

Judge Chapman dismissed the appeal. He said that counsel had arguedthat there was implied exemption on count of racing clubs being subjected to so many other taxes, but the terms of the Act of 1916 wore very explicit. True;* it, was passed in war time, but war expenses had not yet ceased. He suggested that the Legislature must be appealed to, and not the Courts. —Press Assn.
