WEST HELD STOCK SALES.

D ALGETY' AND COMPANY,

Dalgety and Company, Ltd., report as follows on their fat stock sale at Westfield on Wednesday:—

Beef: A large yarding. Prices were easier, especially for second quality. Ox, extra £2 !»/, prime £2 to £2 6/, ordinary '.iii/ to 38/; cow, prime £2 3/, other 30/ io 35/.

Sheep: A good yarding. Bidding was about the same as last week. Wethers, extra' good £2 5/, prime 35/ to 38/, others 30/ to 35/; ewes, extra 37/6, prime 28/ to 32/.

Lambs: Small yarding. Competition was keen. Prime, 35/; good, 25/ to 30/.

Calves: A fair yarding. Market improved considerably. Bunners, £6 to £9; weaners, £2 .10/ to £4; others, 8/ to 12/.

Pigs: Fair yarding. Market slightly better. Baconers, £7 10/ to £9; choppers, £5 to £7; porkers, £3 10/ to £4 10/; weaners, .18/. '

Oa Wednesday last at our weekly Westfield fat stock market we penned fat cattle, to the number of 63G head, comprising 451 steers, 180 cows and heifers, and 5 bulls, which is an increase of 132 on last week's heavy yarding. There was a steady demand for choice ox beef; but all other classes were again lower. Extra choice ox sold to £2 11/ per 1001b; prime and choice ox, £2 5/ to £2 10/; ordinary and plain, £2 io £2 4/; rough beef, £1 7/ to £1 12/; cow aad heifer beef, £1 10/-to £2 5/; steers ranged in price from £19 to £20 15/, for heavy prime steers; lighter prime steers, £15 to £18 10/; light prime steers, £13 to £14 15/; unfinished steers, £0 10/ to £12 10/; heavy prime cows, £1.1 10/ to £15 5/; lighter prime cows, £9 to £11; other cows, £5 to £8 15/. Sheep again came forward in large numbers, and included many* lines of prime mutton, for which competition was keen, and last week's advanced values iiiles. Other classes did not sell so freely. We yarded 82 fat and young calves, consisting of a large number of fresh dropped. Vealers were short of requirements, and prices improved considerably. Runners made from £6 12/6 to £9 7/6; vealers, heavy £4 10/ to £5 3/, medium £3 15/ to £4 7/6, light £2 7/6 to*£3 10/, smn.f 19/ to £2 5/, fresh dropped 9/ to 14/. ■■^..,. At the Haymarket last Friday we had an average yarding of horses. There was a good demand for all sound animals at late quotations. HIDES, SKINS AND TALLOW.

Alfred Buckland and Soas, Ltd., of the Haymarket, report having held their weekly sale of hides, skins, and tallow on Tuesday. Good lines, of cow and ox hides sold on a par with last week's prices. All other grades were neglected by buyers, consequently prices were lower, specially for faulty and damaged hides and calfskins, which were hard to dispose of.

Hides: Cow, best grades 10_d to lid per lb, seconds 7_d to S_d; ox, light lOd to 10$ d, medium ll.d to 12d, heavy 12id to 13d, stout 13_d; cut hides, 9Jd to 10Jd; kips, 7£d to B_d; yearlings, 7d to 9d; calfskins, heavy 8d to 9d per lb, light 14d to 15d, cut a»d meaty lOd, slippy and damaged, no market; horse -hides, 7/6 to 30/ each, according to size and condition.

Tallow: 50/ to 56 per cwt, for best mixed; 37/6 to 45/ for second grade. Bones: £9 per ton.

Horsehair: 1/3 to 2/ per lb,
