"BLACK" JOCKEYS.
REFUSED A PASSAGE
BY THE ARAHURA
GIBPORNE, This Day.
A sequel to the jockeys' strike occurred on the Arahura, 'in the roadstead, as the result of action by the ship's firemen. Four riders who were to take part in the Napier Park races—A. Manson, B. Deeley, E. Lowe, T. Close —and ,S. Kraetzer, racecourse detective, were returned by the tender to the wharf. The tender loft the wharf with the passengers, but previous to its departure the local manager of the Union Company warned the riders that they might have to return. On arrival at tho Arahura the representatives of the firemen informed those aboard ship that they would not sail with the jockeys and Kraetzer. Tho five men therefore returned to the wharf and the vessel left for Napier at 9.ls.—Press Assn.
