A VERITABLE FAIRYLAND

SYDNEY, Wednesday Night.

Tho Prince landed to-day in fine weather and made a remarkable progross through ftie crowded streets to Admiralty House, .he people acclaiming him enthusiastically. It is estimated that over a million people witnessed the various stages of the proceedings. To-night, the Prince was the guest of tne Governor-General at an official dinner and a subsequent ball in the Town Hall.

The city and harbour are ablaze with illuminations. The whole city portion of the Royal route is like a fairy pallace, coloured lights festooning each side of the streets. Public and other buildings are outlined with lights and carrying many beautiful designs. Tho streets are packed with parading humanity. Tho warships and other vessels in the h#rbour stand out in their fiery dressing against tho background of dark water, making a brilliant spectacle, with searchlights playing over all.

Amongst the incidents of the Prince's landing was a flight of airmen, including Sir Ross Smith, all circling low over the landing place. One machine, at a height of three hundred feet, encountered engine trouble smd got out of control. The pilot, however, managed to piano into the harbour, where the rrow of a vessolNrescued him.

During the procession Mr Hughes had a mixed reception. Occasionally ho was greeted with cheers, but for the most part he was hooted, the public taking tho opportunity to signify disapproval of tho recent salary grab.

The Lord Mayor also came in for hooting, in connection with his omission of the Loyal Toast at the Town Kail reception to Archbishop Mannix.— A. aud N.Z.
