IRISH FURY.
MORE BARRACKS SMASHING
SIMULTANEOUS SERIES,
RAILWAYS TORN UP,
(Received 8 a.m.)
LONDON, June 3.
A series of determined attacks on police barracks was made in Ireland yesterday. Two hundred men attacked the Clara barracks, in King's County, with, rifles and bombs for two hours, shattering the walls. The police refused several demands for surrender and eventually repulsed the raiders, who, in addition to the usual impediments on roads and ihe cutting of telephone wires, tore up the railway in a number of places.
Raiders at Fenit, a few miles from Tralee, in County Kerry, penetrated two houses adjoining the barracks, scattered petrol, ignited the buildings, and then opened a fire lasting two hours. Bluejackets on a destroyer in Tralee Bay, seeing the flames, landed and rescued the police. Two of the defenders were wounded.
Many inendiary bombs were used in an attack on the Five Mile Town barracks in County Leitrim. Some were hurled through a hole in the roof. It, is believed that several raiders were wounded. Throe hundred men attacked the Crossgar barracks, in County Down. They entered adjoining houses and attempted to make a breach in the barrack walls with dynamite, but failed. — A. and N.Z.
