Th<" British deputation in Whangarei on Saturday, inquiring as to openings in New Zealand for women land workers, referred to the housinp: problem which \v:i 3 a big one, j and had rt-ceivnl the ladies' careful attention. Miss Watkin stated that tho present- difficulty was a serious bar to a large number of women being sent out. They had no desire of bringing them here with a chance of leaving them homeless and stranded. The difficulty could be overcome by a scheme of community hostels similar to that in operation in Canada and other countries. The scheme might either be started by private enterprise or by friendly and philanthropic association*, with the possible assistance of the Government or municipal bodies.
