MARINE ENGINEERS' STRIKE
NEW OFFER MADE
SPECIAL MEETING OF MEN,
BETTER HOPES ENTERTAINED
SYDNEY, Dec. 19
There has been a development in the engineers' strike, indicating that it may spread to vessels on foreign articles. The Eastern and Australian steamer St. Albans was due to sail yesterday for Japan, via ports, when the engineers refused to sail, and the vessel was hung up.—A. and N.Z. Later. The Controller of Shipping has conveyed a new offer to Marine Engineers' Institute, and a special meeting of the men has been called for tomorrow to consider the matter. The prospects of a settlement are brighter—A. and N.Z.
