THE KARORI ACCIDENT.
MASTER AND OFFICERS EXONERATED.
DUNEDIN, This Day. Mr Widdowson, giving his decision in the magisterial inquiry regarding the mishap to the steamer Karori, said the opinion of the court was that the casualty was caused by the ship taking a sheer on the strongflood tide, which threw her out of position j and through not answering the helm in sufficient time to enable to keep clear of danger. In the circumstances the court exonerated the master, officers and crew of the ship from all blame. The accident was in no way attributable to a defect in the ship's gear, and the master and officers acted with all prudence after the accident. The certificates of the master and officers would be returned. Captain Hopkins was allowed costs.— Press Assn.
