Fifteen years ago this enterprising and progressive firm started in premises with a floor space of 50ft x 30ft, employing one boy. Through good workmanship combined with civility, sound finance and prompt delivery of orders—never having disappointed a client during the whole 15 years—they have worked their business to that size that their premises now cover over half an acre of floor space, which space is taxed to -its utmost, forcing enlargement of the premises. Being progressive men they recognised that the motor car had come to stay and were on the look out for a car suitable for our Northern roads, and were fortunate in securing the agency of the invincible Dodge Bros,. Motor Car, the car that led the way when Colonel Bell's Parliamentary tour through th§ North took place, never once giving the driver trouble through mud hole or hill climbing. To show how the Dodge car has become popular, it is gust five years since Dodge Bros, manufactured their first car and at the present time they hold third place for registered sales in America, and second place in Australia and New Zealand, turning out the high number of 340,000 from their factory last year. It is noteworthy that out of the great number of different makes of cars purchased by the American War Office for use during the war the only car they have retained for permanent use is the Dodge car having found that they stand up to the work better than any other make. There is on view at Smith and Woodman's garage the latest model of this car and the popular opinion is that "nothing better has ever come to Whangarei."

The garage is under the management of Mr D. Wyllie, a motor expert in ever sense of the word, for .coping with any class of motor car repairs. Their machinery is most up-to-date; for fault finding and overhauling their mechanics excel. This firm now holds the Willard battery agency and service station, and has just installed the most efficient charging plant in the Nprth and equal to anything in the Dominion, Messrs Smith and Woodman's garage is the only garage in the North where a car can be mechanically overhauled, body (repaired and re-upholstered, new hood fitted ana re-enamelled (for which they are noted). Their spring repairs are renownel. and they employ experts in every department.

At present they have under construction in their motor body department a cream collecting wagon for the Whangarei Dairy Company. Prospective motor truck buyers would do well, before placing their orders for bodies elsewhere to interview Messrs Smith and Wo<> dman and save com " mission, thereby getting requirements filled at the lowest cost
