SHAREHOLDERS' ANNUAL MEET ING.
At 'he annual meeting of Shareholders of the Northern Publishing Company, this morning, Mr W. Carter retired from the directorate, but did not seek re-election. He was re tiring on account of the condition of his health. In speaking of Mr Carter's retirement, Mr Crawford said that he (Mr Carter) had faithfully carried out what he undertook to do, namely, to see the business on a good financial basis. He had stuck to it faithfully from the start and now he was retir- I ing after having served the share holders with keennes s and ability. Mr Crawford moved that the ,thanks of the shareholders be accorded Mr Carter for the signal service he had rendered the company, and that the same be recorded in the minutes. The motion was seconded by Mr McLeod and carried unanimously. On the motion of Mr A. Smith seconded by Mr McLeod. Mr W. Craw ford was elected to the vacancy. A vote of thanks to the staff and to the secretary for their able, efficient and faithful services was proposed by Mr McLeod, seconded by Mr Smith and carried unanimously.
It was decided that out of the profits of the business a dividend of 7_ per cent, be paid to both preferential and ordinary shareholders, and that the balance be carried forward..
