Mr Leslie Fowler, second engineer of the Pohoutu, whose ship put into Russell last week to load timber for Auckland, nan over for the week-end to visit his mother, Mrs A. Fowler, and to look up old friends.
IMrs W. Mason, junr., returned on Saturday, after a very enjoyable fortnight's holiday spent among friends in Auckland. -
Following as, presumably, a result of the long spell of dry weather a>nd scarcity of feed, 'a considerable amount of sickness (has been noticeable among cattle. One hears of pretty heavy losers further afield and, in the township, 'last week, Mrs Mclner.noy and Mr H. A. Going lost a valuable animal apiece from their milking herds. For some time past owners of stock have found it necessary to hard feed, to make up for the lack of green feed. Spite of this, liowever, "even those animals so far escaping sickness appear distinctly below par in condition.
Miss Winnie Hall has returned from a four-months' recuperative holiday, much, improved in general health. Her itinerary consisted of a round tour of visits to her many friends >and included, inter alia, Maungaturoto, Paparoa and Auckland.
Miss Hazel Tidd, of Hamilton* is at present enjoying a seaside holiday here ias the g-nest of her aunt, iMrs R. Houghton.
