The will of the late Mrs Rathbone, of Waipawa, Hawke's Bay, has been sworn for probate at under £260,----000. Bequests are mdc to various members of the family, and the will then directs that half the revenue shall be set aside for charitable, educational, and religious purposes.
Harry Saddler, well known in theatrical circles in Australia, committed suicide in Sydney lately by diving from a bridge to the railway line below, a distance of 50 feet. It transpired at the inquest that Saddler had been greatly worried of late over betting transactions. Saddler was a clever comedian. Some years ago he toured New Zealand on the Fulle r circuit
The loftiest weather observing station in Britain, on the top of Ben Nevis, is to b e re-opened. It was established in 1881, through the instrumentality of Mr Clement Wragge. The road to the summit cost £800. The observatory is built of granite blocks which abound on this mountain. The tower is 30ft high. Ben Nevis is right in the track of Atlantic storms, and the hourly records were of great value to the world.
