LIBERAL PROMISES
REGARDED WITH SUSPICION
SEMPLE PRONOUNCEMENT
AUCKLAND, This Day.
Mr Semple addressed a great meeting in the Opera House last night. The place was packed from floor to roof. Dealing with Sir Joseph Ward's resignation, he strongly urged the electors not to be lead astray by promises in the Liberal platform. He predicted a great political fight within a month, and made a fiery appeal to the people to stand by Labour. He reiterated his statement chat there was plenty of coal. He aad made a personal inspection and was satisfied that there was no cause for the Government's restrictive action, which he declared had been taken to discredit the miners. He challenged a public inquiry, and declared his intention to move for a One-floor House. The meeting concluded with prolonged cheers. . Later Mr Semple spoke at another crowded meeting in Everybody's Theatre. '
