VARIOUS MATTERS.

IMPROVEMENTS TO MANSE

Mr McKinnon referred to the condition of the manse, and outlined the nature of improvements required, and the probable cost of carrying out the works. He impressed on the congregation that the work of improving the manse should receive early attention, and be the first call on the congregation. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Carruth, seconded by Mr Simpson, that the congregation authorise the carrying out of the necessary works required at the manse, and that the necessary funds for such purpose b e secured on the manse property. CHURCH HALL. Mr Carruth referred to the urgent need of a ■ church hall for Sunday school and social purposes. Such a building would b e a successful undertaking, as it would be much sought after for entertainments of all kinds. Mr Simpson supported the proposal, which was agreed to. ELECTRIC LIGHT. The question of installing electric light in the church was also discussed, and the committee authorised to have the work carried out during the year. CHURCH UNION. The question of the union of the churches was discussed at length, when it was resolved, on the motion of Mr A. M. McLeod, seconded by the Rev. W. Heather:—"That this meeting of the congregation of the Whangarei Presbyterian Church favours the principle of the union of the Presbyterian Church with the Congregational and Methodist churches, on condition that a satisfactory basis be arrived at."

Mr Carruth declared his vote against the resolution, on the ground that h e was a true Presbyterian, and preferred to remain as such to the end.
