HUANUI
There have been a number of | changes here lately. Mr Edge recently bought Mr Main's (jun.) farm and part of that of Mr Main (sen.), part of the latter, adjoining Mr Hutchinson's, having been secured by that gentleman. Mr Nadin has leased Mr Bekker's farm. It is rumoured that two returned soldiers have secured another well-known farm. The new-comers have, considerably increase, the school roll, but unfortunately the walls of the building will not expand. The alternation of sun and rain since Arbor Day has been favourable to the young trees planted in the Glenbervie school ground. There are three Abies Douglassi, one each side of the entrance gate, and one in the corner of the enclosed garden. Ten Cupressus Lawsoniana, commonly called Lawson pines, have been planted along the boundary of the new grass. Forty Pinus Insigms trees have been planted along the boundary of the new-ploughed land; seven Cupressus Macrocarpas planted in the lower corner, and three Euonymus (variegated) planted in the garden. This is one of the best variegated foliage plants available, and is planted alternately with the green euonymus already growing. Some totaras, a puriri, to remind us of the bush, are already doing well; and oaks and willows represent the detrees. Some flowering shrubs presented, by Mr Ellin, are planted alternately with the trees, and Te Koma, Honeysuckle, Passion vines, and Crimson Ramblers will soon be competing to cover the wire nettine round the garden. Regular monthly Anglican services are now held in the Maori church by the Vicar of Hikurangi, and Rev. Mr Lambert continues services in the school once a fortnight. The children of the district were very pleased to receive a dainty Peace Celebration card each last week.
