OF HARBOUR BOARD BILL
BY ENTHUSIASTIC AND REPRESENTATIVE MEETING
OF ALL DISTRICT INTERESTS,
IMPROVEMENT NEED: MONEY MUST BE FOUND.
With the object of placing before the ratepayers the full facts in connectiqn;with the promotion of the Whangarei Harbour Board Empowering Bill, authorising the raising of a sum of £150,000 for harbour improvement purposes, the Board yesterday met a large and representative meeting in the supper-room of the Town Hall. Invitations to attend the conference had been sent out to all Eoad Boards, Town Boards, Whangarei County Council, Whangarei Borough Council, Dairy Companies, Farmers' Union Branches, A. and P. Society, Chamber of Commerce, and Portland Cement Co. In response to that invitation representatives were present as follows:—Road Boards: Mania (H. H. Hawkin), Maungakaramea (W. Crawford), Kauri (M. Mclnnes), Waikiekie (T. Steadniari), Ruarangi (Graham), Waipu North (A. McKenzie). Town Boards: Hikurangi (E. Swarm and F. Mcßeth), Onerahi (A. H. Mason), Kamo (T. Griffin) Whangarei County Council (Crs. Kernohan and Hodge), Borough Council (the Mayor, and Crs. Holmes and Tibbits). Dairy Companies: Whangarei (Wakelin and D. X. McLeod), Maungatapere (J. H. Hayward and B. Morrison), Hikurangi (T. McDonald and F. Elliot), Parua Bay (Hall and manager), Waikiekie (Berridge), Waipu (J. A. Finlayson). Farmers' Union Branches: Waikiekie (T. Steadman), Hikurangi (T. Ellis), Mangakahia (A. Heape), Maungakaramea (J. Evans), Maungatapere (Mannington), Ruatangata (S. Tremaine), Waipu (J. A. Finlayson), Matapouri (Brigham), Parua Bay (Henz), Ruakaka (P. Murdoch), Titoki (F. Smith), Springhead Cheese Factory (C. Stevens), A. and P. Society (J. A. S. McKay), Chamber of Commerce (S. J. McCormick and A. McLeod), Portland Cement Co. (Geo. Elliott and Wilson). The chair was occupied by Mr John D. McKenzie (chairman of the Harbour Board) and all the members of the Board were also present. Maps of the district were displayed on the wall of the hall showing the harbour district with its railways and main trade routes and also plans showing the scope of Mr Blair Mason's improvement scheme and the Board's endowments possible of reclamation.
