THRUST TOWARDS LAON.

SOUTHERN VILLAGES ABLAZE.

BRITISH ON DOUAI DOORSTEP.

FRENCH CAPTURE VOUZIERES

(Received 5.5 p.m.)

NEW YORK, Oct. 12

The French have captured Vouzieres. The British are at the outskirts of Douai and Guise. The villages south of Laon are burning. The Franco-Americans are near Dun-Sur-Meuse and Buzancy. The "New York Times' " correspondent at the American front ■states: "An American bombing squadron, consisting of more than 350 machines, dropped 32 tons of explosives behind the German lines between Warville and Damvilliers. The squadron was composed of 200 bombing planes, 100 pursuit machines, and 50 triplanes. In a battle with the enemy 12 German machines were destroyed and one American. With the exception of the raid north of Verdun this is the largest undertaken so far on the West front.—A. and N.Z.
