SOUTH AFRICAN SITUATION.
STILL VERY SERIOUS

CAPETOWN, Oct 12
The situation as far as deaths is conceimed has decidedly improved, and it is hoped that the back of the epidemic is broken locally. The burials yesterday were 400. The bodies of coloured people were removed in waggon loads. There were 150 deaths reported to-day. Johannesburg has opened a special hospital. Business hours have been curtailed and schools closed.—A. and N. Z.
