NORTH RUSSIA.

FIFTY-MILE PUSH

ALONG THE DWINA

BOLSHEVIKS BEATEN

(Received 7.40 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 26. It is announced that General Poole has considerably advanced up the Dwina River and cleared both sides for 50 miles south of Berenitska, severely defeating the Bolsheviks and sinking four ships. The situation of the Czechs on the Volga front continues serious, considerable enemy forces operating in the direction of Krasniufimon, which the Czechs hold. The Bolsheviks are constantly reinforced by Germans. The new Bolshevik army is ultimately to consist of half a million, whom the Germans are actively engaged in instructing. The majority of the Bolshevik forces are comparatively worthless, while two-thirds of the peasantry, about half the workmen, and the whole of the bourgeoisie are intensely hostile to the Bolshevik rule. Many workers on the Volga tried to join the Czechs, but the Bolsheviks prevented them.—A. and N.Z.
