WALKED OVER THE WHARF.

SHIP'S FIREMAN DROWNED

A COURAGEOUS CONSTABLE

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, November 14.

A ship's fireman named Con Boyle dropped into the harbour last night. He approached the barrier to the Glasgow wharf, while apparently tinder the influence of liquor, walked to the outer end, and stepped into the harbour.

Constable Claverly, who noticed the man's action, threw a life-line to the fireman, who made no effort to grasp

it. The constable then dived into the water swam to the man, and brought him to the piles, whence the man, who had become unconscious, was hauled up to the wharf. A doctor was summoned, but efforts at resusciation were

unavailing.
