WHANGAREI BOROUGH COUNCIL.

FORTNIGHTLY MEETING.

The ordinary meeting of the Whangarei Borough Council was held laat night when there were present the Mayor (Mr J. S. Dent), Crs. J. E. Holmes, E. G. W. Tibbits, W. Reynolds, F. Cutforth, and D. A. McLean. A SUBDIVISION. The plan of a subdivision submitted by Mr Harrison was approved. ABATTOIR REPORT. The manager of the abattoir reported that all work was proceeding satisfactorily and the place was hi good order. He also stated that the butchers' shops in town had complied with all requirements. The removal of weeds from the abattoir grounds was advisable. The Council decided to have the grounds cleared up as suggested. PROPOSED FOUNTAINS. An estimate was received from Messrs A. and T. Burt as to the cost of erecting public fountains, but m view of the financial position of the Council the matter was held over for the present. The fountains were quoted at £6 10s each, f.o.b. Auckland, with dog troughs 15s extra. KENSINGTON DRAINAGE. The engineer submitted the cost of the drainage scheme at Kensington, viz., £2232. WATER ON FOOTPATHS. Some discussion took place upon the wash of water from fish shops coming on to the footpaths in Cameron street, and the owners are to be given notice to abate the nuisance. GENERAL BUSINESS. Cr. Reynolds mentioned that the church fence in Hunt street was encroaching several feet upon the roadway, and the matter is to be dealt with. The question of tarring the entrance to the fire station is also to receive attention. Reference was again made to the alleged breaches of the borough building by-laws, and the clerk was instructed to ascertain what action was being taken to compel compliance
