CHAUME WOOD RECOVERY.
HUNS BOMB A HOSPITAL.

A French communique states:—)An active artillery duel occurred in the region of the Oise-Aisne Canal and lively infantry fighting at Chaume Wood, north of Verdun. The French re-established their positions after several counter-attacks. Enemy aeroplanes bombed Dunkirk, killing three and injuring ten people. They also dropped incendiary bombs on a hospital at Zupdcoote, killing seven and wounding nine of the hospital staff.
A German official report states: — English attacks north-east of Poelcapelle were repulsed after hand-to-hand fighting. Most violent recipro. cal artillery duelling has occurred along the Yser and at Houlthulst Wood, as far as Zandvoorde. We wrested from the French positions it Chaume Wood, on the Verdun sector.
