HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

WELLINGTON, July 21. The House met yesterday at 2.30 p.m. The Shops and Offices Amendment Bill (Mr Hindmarsh), and the Maori War Medal Bill (Mr Wright) were introduced and read a first time. The usual sessional committees were set up. On the motion of the Premier a new committee was set up to take into consideration the portion of the export meat trade, with special regard to the operations of the American Meat Trust.

The Hon. G. W. Russell laid on the table a report on the last census.

Replying to a question Mr Massey said that commissions would be set up at an early date to define the new boundaries of electoral districts.

The debate on the Address-in-Reply was resumed during the afternoon and at night by Messrs Sykes, Veitch, Wright, and Talbot, and the House rose at 10.20 p.m.
