NEW YORK, July 2
The "New York World" states that the officers on an American steamer arriving at an American port report that British patrollers located the U boat base a fortnight ago. II boat supplies of shot, oil, and other commodities were confiscated.
It is biel'ieved that tlhe movements of Allied ships 'have been reported tc U boats from a base in New York.
The "Herald's" Washington correspondent says: "At the termination of five months' unnestrict&d submarining, naval officers estimate that the iresult is far short of Germany's programme of one million tons monthly. They declare that the total tonnage lost in the first ylear does -not exceed four millions , , wlhile three millions was constructed in the same period."
