FIRST OF THE SEASON'

The North Auckland Automobile vVssociation held its first run for this season yesterday afternoon. The energetic secretary (Mr G. L. A. Huttj had all the arrangements in goo: order and as a result B»aw IS (carrying about 100 people) started off on a pleasant journey from Whangarei. Ihe route taken was through Maunu and along the Maungataperc. Dargaville road to Whatitiri. Here a halt was made at the picturesque farm of .Mr W. H. Millinsion where the "carists , " were entertained by Mr S. J. McCormicl*. president of the club, at afternoon tea.

Afterwards, in a speech on behalf of the company, Mr M. W. Armstrong thanked the president for his hospitality. The vote was carried by acclamation. . .. . Replying, Mr McCormick said it would bo'tbo endeavour-of tile club to select new routes on each successive occasion .during the coming season. He spoke of the usefulness of motorsists —both on land and on sea —during war time, and sajd that the motorists' clubs had furnished experienced men whose services had been of great value. It was, he said, upon Mrs McCormick that the brunt of the afternoon's entertainment had fallen, but her labour had been lightened by tho facilities which Mr had afforded. For these good offices he desired to thank Mr 'Millington. (Applause.) Mr Milllngtoii briefly thanked the company for their expression of appreciation. The company then travelled around Whatitiri, via Poroti, and back to Whangarei. Generally speaking thi roads were in good condition, but the late spell of dry weather made the motoring conditions slightly dusty.

The club had selected a day upon which it was thought, there would be no counter-attractions, but circumstances intervened which prevented a number of members from attending. On the way out two tyres were punctureaaud on the homeward journey a slight fault in one car necessitated a brief delay.
