Private R. II Simpson, reported to have died from the effects of gas, lef Mew Zealaind with the 6th Reinforcements He was accompanied by Bugler R. Simpson, a younger brother, who was invalided home in April last after seeing service in the Gallipoli campaign. Private R. IT. Simpson was the second son of Mr -J. Simpson, of Kuawai, Northern Wairoa.
Mr \V. L. Norton, of Ailontown. Pennsylvania, who came over from fife United States two years aμo to take up the position of assistant construe tional engineer at the Domiuion Com pany's cement works at Portland, tviP leave on his return to America by the Makura'on the 26th hist. His term at the works will conclude about the end of'this week, and he intends to fill in the interval at Rotorua.
By the noou boat-train to-day a party of six gentlemen took their departure from Whangarei for various destinations. They were Mr G. Banks, manager of the Waihi gold mine: Mr 11. Stansfield, manager of the Karangahakc gold mine; Mr Chas. Ranson. Northern .Steamship Company manager; Captain J. .Smith and Messrs Laurie Casey and U. 10 Williams, of Auckland, land. Since their arrival here on Tuesday last they have paid visits to the H'ikurangi coal mines, the Puhipuhi cinnabar ares', the Dominion Company's cement works at Portland, and the hydro-electrical power station at Wairua Falls
