Major Willoughby Clive Garsia, M.C., Hampshire Regiment, has been appointed general staff officer of the second grade. Gaptain T. M. Wilkes, New Zealand staff corps, has been appointed bri-' gadier-major vice Major V. H. Lampen, New Zealand star? corps. Dr. M. M. Morrison, Auckland, who arrived in England in September, 1915, was posted to a commission in the R.A.M.C. In consequence of illhealth he has just relinquished his commission. Lieutenant W. J. Smeeton, of Auckland, Royal Field Artillery, has been promoted captain. He is only 21 years of age. Gunner F. J. Munro, late of the staff of the "New Zealand Herald," who joined the Royal Garrison Artillery as a gunner at the outbreak of the war, is now in London after 18 months' active service. He was recommended for a commission for gallantry on the field, and now is gazetted as a lieutenant. Lieutenant H. D. Williams, of the Auckland Mounted Rifles, who is now attached to the Royal Flying Corps, has been promoted observer, as has also Second-Lieutenant E. T. Shand, who was transferred from the Otago Mounted Rifles to a commission in tho Royal Flying Corps. Lieutenant T. E. Y. Scddon, New Zealand Rifle Brigade, is a reluctant patient at the No. 2 London Gencr.il Hospital, suffering from au injured knee incurred while playing football behind the front. Second J Lieutenant J. E. Histed, R.F.C., Auckland, is confirmed in his appointment, and is now a flying officer. Mr W. Cecil Leys, Auckland, has returned to England from Salonika, where he has beeu driving a motorambulance for some months past. He hopes to be appointed to duty in France. Mr H. Erlam, who left New Zealand with the* main body and was given a commission in the Imperial Army after being wounded in Gallipoli, is now at Salonika. Mr Erlam served for 14 years in the Royal Navy, and has the Persian Gulf medal. Mr J. H. Beamish, late of Auckland, has for some time been managing War Office contracts for the firm of Messrs E. C. Brittain and Company. Mr Reginald Boyne, Auckland, has for the last IS months been engaged on war work, and is now engaged on the manufacture of aeroplanes.
