HIKURANGI.

From the standpoint of attendance the second meeting of Hikurangi residents called to discuss the desirability of entertaining the Parliamentary party proved no more successful than the first. However a little more progress was made. All in attendance agreed that it would be a great mistake to allow the party to pass through the town without stopping. What should prove an energetic committee was set up to take the arrangements of luncheon in hand. The committee consists of Messrs E. Nelson (chairman), E. Tattlev (secretary), R. Lomas, E. Swarm, A. Mcivenzie, F. Jefferies and King. The luncheon is to be given in the public hall, where, it is contended by Mr ■Swarm, sufficient, tables can be arranged to seat 150 people. This question of seating accommodation naturally led on to a question as to the number of invitations ;t would be possible to issue. It vas agreed that invitations be sent o all heads of local bodies within .he district, and to a few other men •vhom it was thought desirable to lave in attendance. The work of Lhe committee will be greatly lessened jy a generous offer made by Mr , iwann to place at its disposal all the iccessories of the hotel and to do all cooking required for the luncheon. j The committee agreed that plenty of i help would be forthcoming from the ladies. The monthly meeting of the Bowling Club committee was held last Wed. nesday night. The secretary (Mr A. N. Wallace) reported on "the fin. auces of the club, and showed that Hie year's income would not meet the liabilities. There was a provision in the rules of the club, Mr Wallace said, which gave the committee power to make a further levy not exceeding 10s on each member. The question of the levy was held over until January when a general meeting is to be caleld. The deputation which waited on the Town Board to ask for x larger water pipe to the green reported that they had been successful, but that the club had been asked to defray part of the expenses of laying the pipe, an amount of £3. It was agreed to ask each member to subscribe toward the amount. A vote of thanks to the Town Board was carried. As the caretaker's term expires with the year it was decided to offer 'u'm the position for a further term at the same remuneration. . The president was requested .to hand .the trophies to the winner and runner-up of last year's championship, arid it was resolved that the winners; and run•lers.up of this year's pairs champion, ship each receive a prize valued at -t guinea and half-a-guinea respectively. A vote of thanks was passed to the several men who have recently donated seats to the club.
