DROWNING FATALITY.
THREE MAORI GIRLS LOST
(By Telegraph.—Press Association). GISBORNE. December 7. A drowning finally occurred at Terai yesterday afternoon when three Maori girls lost, their ii v e;,. The children were pupils of the Terai school— Rera Johnston, 12 years of age, Horiana Turangi, I), and Pa'.rua, S, went to the river to bathe, accompanied by three other girls. No definite story : s told by the survivors as to how the tragedy occurred, but it is surmised the children got into difficulties in leep water. On the alarm being given several adults went to their assistance, but the girls had disappeared. The girls were all used to swimming. A search was immediately instituted but so far only one body has been. recovered.
