The "Daily Chronicle's" Athens correspondent says that the advancing Allies found the Greeks in strong positions on the Philipupus Observatory Hill, near the Acropolis. Tlie Greeks, who were in superior forces, charged from Philipupiis. It is estimated that the Greek prisoners number about 100.
The Allied fleet at Kerastini fired thirty shells, of: which four fell in the neighbourhood of the Palace, one damaging the kitchens. Part of a shell, still hot, was shown to the King while he conferred with the Entente Ministers. An armistice followed, giving relief to the terrorised people.
The population gathered in the streets of Piraeus on Sunday, witnessing the funeral of ~>-l British and French killed on Friday. The Entente representatives attended.
Keports are being spread in Athens that Castoria nnd Monastir have been taken, with a view to encouraging the warlike spirit. Diplomacy makes little progress, and it may almost be said that a state of; war exists. The Allied Ministers ;ire conferring with M. Fournet. Greek patrols ;ire still in tre Piraeus streets, and numbers of the people are fleeing to Athens. It is rumoured that the next Greek move will be an advance on Piraeus.
