General Murray's despatch, dated October 1, cover.- the operations ..•. Egypt from June 1 to September 30. General Murray, in detailing tae operations at Quatia, praises the work of the Australian and New Zealand Mounter's and the Australian . L'ght Horse who were employed in observing and harassing the enemy's advance. The complete result of the opera tions was the decisive defeat of 18,000 of the enemy, including t'.ie capture of 1.5,000 rifles and 4000 men taken prisoner. The total of the enemy casualties was about 9000. Major -'Gonera 1 Chauvel proved him self a resolute and resourceful cavalry leader. The brunt of the whole fighting foil upon the Australian and New Zealand Mounteds, and General Murray cannot .speak too highly of the gallantry, steadfastness, and untiring energy which these fine troops have shown.
