RUSSIAN FACTOR EFFECTIVE. ROUMANIANS TAKE HEART. Australian and N Z. Cable Association. (Press Assn.—Reed. 9.10 p.m.) PETROGRAD, December 3. |Tlie Russian success in the wooded Carpathians has caused General Falkenhayn to delay his advance, fearing that his rear would be endangered. Moreover, the Roumanians, encouraged by the Russian attack, have assum.. Ed a resolute offensive in Bizeu Valley and threaten to descend on Brasso. The Russian advance on the fron tier of ißukovina and Hungary is developing with the utmost energy. The road to Mannorssziget is now unde- - thp fire of Russian guns. The Russians overcame desperate German resistance at Kirlibara and also seized the Rurwhaka height near the rear of the enemy's position. The Germano-Bulgar reverse at Koniana has momentarily arrested the attempt to reach Bucharest from that direction; nevertheless a fresh crossing of the Danube at Turtukai is threatened. Meanwhile the Russo-Rounianians regard the preservation of the Roumanian army as essential, even if it is necessary to temporarily abandon Bucharest.
