A VALUED-OFFICIAL.

RETIREMENT OF MR. EGGINTON.

Mr F. Egginton, the Wharigarei" rr •">-<-» postmaster, will retire from active service in the Post and Telegraph Department on the 31st inst. From that date he will receive three months' leave of absence on full pay, entering into full superannuation as from March 31, 1917. At the end ot this year Mr Egginton will have been hi charge it Whangarei for 2 years and nine months. He transferred here from Pukekohe, where he was stationed for iYs years. Altogether he has been 41 years in the service, and during the whole of that period has been absent from duty for only three weeks on account of ill-health. He has been connected with post and telegraph offices in dozens of places in New Zealand, though the bulk of his departmental career was at the Thames, where he was stationed for 22 years, under the late Mr J. Coney, and Mr Aitken (assistant postmaster), who is now on the retired list. In that period he witnessed many changes in the gold-min-ing world, the "Prince Imperial" rush taking place in his time. Mr Egginton ; intends to remain in Whangarei for another 12 months for family reasons, and may then take up his permanent abode in Auckland. Before retiring x from the service, Mr Egginton thinks : it only due to the people of Whangarei and district to state that he has nowhere met with greater consideration and courtesy. Complaints have certainly been made on various grounds, but they never have been of a captious or .unwarranted nature. The Thames residents he describes as having been especially kind, but he gives the paint iii that respect to the people of Whaugarei.
