KITCHENER'S PRAISE.
FOR TOWNSHEND'S GARRISON

Lord Kitchener, speaking in the House of Lords regarding the surrender of Kut-el-Amara, said that the House could not fail to realise the tense strain that had been borne by the troops in holding their posts for upwards of twenty weeks under abnormal climatic difficulties, and with restricted rations.
