Mrs Ganson, wife of the Mayor of '•uckland, returned to Auckland by he Manaia to-day.

Among the passengers by the ;learner train for Auckland, this morning, were Mr H. R. Cook and ..::• John Hall, of Auckland.

Mr J. E. Mackley, Westingbouse brake expert for the Railway Department, is at present in Whargarc, r,.ul will probably be employed here for the next two months.

Several person have claimed the honour of being th e first European child born in Canterbury after the arrival of the first four ships on December 16th, 1850. The rightful claimant, apparently, is Mrs Margaret Neville, whose maiden surname was Wliitmore (says the "Lyttelton Times.")
