THE WAR AND GOD.

(To the Editor). Sir, —Thirty years ago the Jingoes had begun to sing: "We don't want to fight, but by jingo if we do, we've got the ships, we've got the men, we've got the money too." Evidently, however, ships, men and money alone are not enough to win this war. To these must be added brains and surely among the Allies —British, French, Russians, Italians, etc. —brains are also forthcoming. Still we do not win the war. The most important requisite is practically ignored owing to the little attention that is paid to it nationally. Ships, men, money, brains, and then God's help are all necessary, and the four first are useless without the last. Is God on our side? Surely He is not so much against us as against the Germans. At the same time the pun. ishment He is meting out to us is intensely dreadful. We are all, no doubt—l mean all the nations concerned —getting what we deserve. Now, what can we do to be saved? Or, in other words, win this war? Men, ships, money and brains must all still be employed most lavishly, but we must also get God on our side or get on the right side of God, of the Lord, or Jehovah. Where is the band of absolute believers who are willing, armed only with prayer and praise, to march on the German trenches aiid see them fall as the walls of Jericho did? How many iof us really believe in the power of Jehovah? that God is really Almighty God and can do anything He likes? .We must get God on our side before we can. win this war or get on God's side before He will win it for. us. There are several ministers of religion in Whangarei. Will they concentrate their minds o:i this subject and help us? It is to be hoped that all over Christendom a movement to this effect will take place with all possible speed. If the Bible is true we must trust God absolutely. Do we really believe the Bible is absolutely true? Do we absolutely trust God? —I am, etc., J. E. SWING
