POSITION NOT HOPELESS
LONDON, May 1. The Paris newspapers publish sympathetic references to the surrender of General To ! wnsend.
> The "Matin" says: "The Turks will still be compelled to face the British, and will soon have the Russians in their rear."
'The German newspapers attribute the Turkish success at Kut-el-Amara to the preparations of the late General yon der Goltz. The "Vossische Zeitung" says the surrender is the heaviest blow ever struck at Britain.
German and Turkish flags are to be seen in every direction in Germany. ,
'The German school children got a whole holiday in celebration of the surrender of the British force at Kut-el-Anrara. They only went to school to hear a patriotic lecture on the Turkish victory.
