ONERAHI.

The Town Board is taking time by the forelock in getting the town footpaths in good order against the coming winter. Workmen are now engaged renewing the scoria throughout and filling up minor washouts. Storm-water, after rain, forms the chief destructive agent to contend with on the steeper tracks leading from the plateau • to the beach and, wherever possible, measures are being" taken to obviate its effects. A nine-inch pipe culvert has been put in to take the water at the upper corner of Church and Mason streets so as to divert the drainage from the steps of the Jacob's ladder and the pathway below.

The secretary of the acting-school committee is in receipt of a letter from the Education Board, signifying its intention, prior to considering the appointment of a school commissioner, to call a second meeting' of householders for the election of a new committee.

" s *-»As a provision against future eventualities, and the possible com. ing of "lean" years, before the war is over Messrs Watsou and Wrack are each putting down a considerable area of their Awaroa farms in wheat.
