PATRIOTIC SPRING SHOW.

A PATRIOTIC FIXTURE

The patriotic character of the above fixture is an outcome of the terrific struggle now raging. The Manawatu Spring Show is exceedingly well-known; this is the thirtieth of them. It is to v be a similar Show to those that have passed, but the object is different. The object of this, the thirtieth Grand Metropolitan Show and Industrial Exhibition of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association,' is to assist the funds for the relief of our sick and wounded soldiers and the committee is determined that it shall be worthily done. The schedule now to.hand shows no diminution of prize money as it was fully recognised that the cost of* getting up stock for exhibition is heavy and breeders like to have at least a chance of recouping themselves for their outlay. Particularly so has 1 this been the case this season owing to heavy cost of fodder. Great improvements are in progress on the grounds and one which should be mentioned is the new grand cattle pavilion. The display of cattle at Palmerston Spring Show is one of its great features and to cover them all means a very big building. The committee boldly tackled the problem that has been facing it for several years past with the result that the huge building now being erected on two new sections at a cost of £3500 was decided upon. Visitors will now be able to inspect the animals in comfort and exhibitors will have the satisfaction of knowing that their valuable stock is safely protected from inclement weather; A certain amount of planting has also been done and the old cattle pens removed. More room will now be available for machinery, etc. We have not space to review the schedule at length, but they can be obtained free from the secretary, Mr W. T. Penny, Box .85, Palmerston North. It is quite up to previous standards and contains as usual several new features. It is sincerely hoped that the North will endeavour to assist this function either in entries, donations or by their personal attendance.
