BISHOP CLEARY.
A SLOW RECOVERY
A circular letter has been issued to the Catholic Clergy concerning the illness of Bishop Cleary of Auckland.
It is as follows:—"As the messages I have had to convey recently in reference to his Lordship the .Bishop have been alarming and distressing, I now deem.it my duty to send a message which will give great assurance and _ widespread reli.ef. Lengthy letters from Dr. Ormond and Father Kehoe now assure us that the Bishop is improving. I quote the following from a letter just received, written August 13th:
"There was a consultation between the doctors this morning at the suggestion of his Excellency the Papal' delegate, with the folloAving result. Although the Bishop is very weak, the doctors are assured that the nerve storms are not affecting the heart —moreover, the doctors give the assurance that the Bishop will be as well as ever provided their method of treatment is adhered to. It will be between three and six months before the Bishop can leave the hospital.'
"A cable message just received states that the improvement in the Bishop'V condition is progressing slightly. In all messages received from Sydney his Lordship conveys his affectionate wishes to the clergy and religious communities of the diocese." The letter is signed by Monsignor Brodie.
