HAWKE'S BAY OPINION
NAPIER, July 21
At a meeting of the Hawke's BayLiberal League Executive yesterday evening- a resolution was passed expressing .gratification at the formation of the; special Defence Committee and= the opinion that the work ot this committee would be so widened as; to*, make all future matters or defence truly national, and entirely, free from any suggestion of party. The resolution adds, "This meeting favours this course in prefefiace to the proposals for a National.'.-Cabinet, "which is opposed to the Vi>?st: the State, ia that it- would stifle ail criticism of and administrative blunders v and deprive - the the country; of one of Its "greatest safeguards— vigilant -Opposition. This meeting asks Sir Joseph" Ward to lead" the Liberal party ill "its express intention of assisting in all matters of" defence, but . urges on him not to endanger the future of the Liberal and Labour party, and its great democratic principles, ty accepting office in' a Conservative Cabinet.; " T '■
