WHY IT WAS GIVEN UP,
Press Assn.—Reed. 10 p.m.)
LONDON, July 21
Right Hon. C. E. H. Hobhouse said ha was present at. the re-capture of Hill 00 salient, projecting into the German lines. Concentrated fire made it impossible, for the troop to remain upon the hill. It was essential that, the withdrawal should not be known by the Germans. Afterwards Hill 60 ceased to be of military
Probably that was why it was not mentioned in earlier dispatches to the War Office.
