LONDON, July 20.
| At the Newport conference Mr Lloyd-George pointed out the extreme gravity of the situation and demanding a settlement. Tho effect of the strike upon the Continent was such that no Government could possibly allow the continuance of a conflict which imperilled the chances of victory. The conference did not arrive at a decision and adjourned until 10 o'clock to-day. Mr Lloyd-George met the owners at noon.
