AUSTRIANS CLAIM SUCCESSES.
ITALIANS VIGOROUSLY ATTACK
(Press Assn,—Reed. 10.20 p.m.) ROME, July 20.
An Austrian official wire says after crossing the Volitza we advanced on the enemy's positions on the heights taking prisoner 3000. The Austro-German successes on the 18th along the entire front have shaken the enemy's resistance and all re-inforcements within reach have been brought up, during the last few dayß but they have been unable to maintain their position and began to retreat on the night of the 18th and evacuated the battlefield.
The-Italians vehemently attacked in the Goritzia region and along the entire border eH the plateau. Obstinate hand-to-hand fighting took place all night long and the enemy were repulsed after reaching our advanced trenches. The fighting Was renewed this morning.
