Anotlier first offender, who was disorderly while drunk in Whangarei on Saturday was lined £1 and costs. The extensions to the Court House are almost eonpleted. Except for decorations and furnishings the Court room will be finished for tomorrow's sitting of the Magistrate's Court. The Magistrate's new room is cosy, airy and well-lighted, and affords accommodation more worthy of a town the size of Whangarei. A party of visitors to the Whanga- j rei Palls express themselves as delighted with this near beauty spot. There was a good flow of water over the rocky cliff, the falls dividing into three main streams. The surrounding bush looked very pretty indeed, and the natural bowl into which the water falls was partially hidden in a cloud of spray. Eleven civil eases are down for hearing by Mr E. Page, S.M., at Whangarei to-morrow. Three will be defended. In the- police list are the following eases: One of leaving a train whilst it was in motion; six against motorists, for passing over a railway crossing ■when the line was not clear, for failing to stop at a railway crossing, and for failing to keep a look-out at a railway crossing; and one case for keeping a dirty orchard by not eradicating the Codlin moth infection. The ladies committee of the Auckland Patriotic League have forwarded to the Mayoress of Whangarei (Mrs l>. W. Jack), acknowiedgmeTit of the receipt of £0 for the sock fund and of a large parcel oi' .socks. The secretary writes: "We are very grateful. The Committee thinks that the Whangarei people have given us splendid help. We are shortly sending two pairs of socks to f-ach of the brave lads who have gone to the front from the Auckland Provincial district. , ' The civil sessions of the Auckland Supreme Court which commence on Monday will havp. a special interest to Whangarei and district. Of five divorce cases to be held before the Judge and a. jury of twelve are the following: Walter IFartnell v. Bernice Mabel Hartnell and Alfred Hilford; and Maud Elizabeth Hiscock v. William Henry Hiscock . The parties in the former case are known in the Maungakaramea district and in the latter case the gants are from Whangarei. Mr E. Burns, acting consul for Belgium, has written the Mayor of Whangarei (Mr D. W. Jack) acknowledging receipt of cheque valued £67 18s :>d, being a further amount from the people of Whangarei and district towards the purchase of the Lindaue-r collection of pictures. Mr Burns said he gaw his very best thanks for what u\-is being done for the. fund. The Consulate thanked all who had so kindly donated towards the fund, and gave assuraic'e that this continued support was much appreciated. Good sport and a big , bag- fell f o the lot of Messrs W. T. Patrick and P. J. Norwood, of Whangarei, yesterday. Leaving early, they spent j a long: day in the Tangiteroria district, at the end of which they were able to count as trophies 17 turkeys and seven pheasants. The turkeys j were young birds, but in excellent condition. The shooters were courteous enough to leave seven turkeys with the owner of the land over which, they shot. The remaining ten were brought to Whangarei and were photographed this morning by Mr T. G. Palmer.
