LOCKING MOUNTAIN DOORS.
.LONDON, April 17
The "Daily Chronicle's Verona correspondent says that great military activity prevails on the north-eastern frontier. The Italians are incessantly moving guns, cavalry and infantry throughout the mountains, and the frontier is smarming AVith troops. Nothing has been neglected to lock the doors over the mountains, though the snow renders military operations improbable. The principal activity is in Udine province, where every branch of the army and units of all the most important regiments are represented. , It is estimated that over four "thousand deserters arrived in Verona from Austria during the war. Many Auatrians were frozen to death in the mountains. . ( It is reported that the Adige valley, on the Austrian side, has been devastated by the making of trenclaes.
