An end was put to-day to the apparent indifference with which the local body elections have been regarded. No fewer than twelve candidates are out lor Borough Council honours, all the old members standing for re-election Despite this revealed activity, however, Mr. D. VV. Jack was re-elected as Mayor, no one opposing him. y» Four candidates are out for two seats on the Harbour Board, the two retiring members, one of whom is the chairman, seeking re-election. A similar position applies in respect of the Hospital Board. In conjunction with the elections' for the foregoing bodies, a poll will take place on the half-holiday question, the booths being at the Town Hall, Whangarei and Karao. The hours of voting in all cases are between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. i The candidates are as follow: i Borough Council. —Old members: j Messrs. F. Cutforth, j<. S. Dent, D. A. McLean, L. T. Pickmere, R. H. Harrison and J. E. Holmes. New Candidates: Messrs. T. A. Williams, C. W. J. Eccles,-G. L.- A Hutt, P. Jones, A. Smith and H. C. Rishworth. Harbour Board.—Old members: Messrs. J. R. Reyburn and J. ifl. Holmes. New candidates: Messrs. T. H. Steadman and R. H. Allan. Hospital and Charitable Aid Board.—-Old members: Messrs N. McKenzie'and B. H. McCready. New candidates: Messrs. I. W.Moore and F. T. Steele.
