The Government vainly endeavoured to dissuade the native deputation from sailing for London. General Botha pointed out that' the Land Act separated the two races in the interest of both,.and was simply an instalment of the legislation designed to provide fora lasting settlement. He reminded the deputation that' Parliament and the people of South Africa would nbt tolerate outside inter- ' ference.
